Claire Mabey

Claire Mabey is founder of literary organisation Verb Wellington, books editor at The Spinoff, and curator of bookish events. Her first novel, The Raven's Eye Runaways, was published in 2024 by Allen & Unwin. The sequel is coming in 2026. Claire lives on Wellington's wild South Coast and is constantly inspired by the wind, the wildflowers and the tracks that run through the hillsides. She is mum to son, Charlie, who shares her love of spooky tales, Beatrix Potter, and making up stories. Claire started writing when she was five years old with a very long poem about an overworked tooth fairy called Bee. When Claire isn't writing or dreaming up events, she can be found running down by the sea and even plunging into it, rain, hail or shine.
