Jade Timms shortlisted for The Ethel Turner Prize in NSW Premier’s Literary Awards

Congratulations to our wonderful client Jade Timms, who was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards for his debut YA contemporary novel Golden, published with Text Publishing (not represented by ABA).

The judges report:

A nuanced portrait of grief in a vivid Australian setting, Golden is a relatable and uplifting read from a talented debut author. Three years ago, Eddie witnessed an accident that shattered her world. As a result, her life in her coastal town is solitary, tight and controlled — until she meets Howl. But being seen and known requires radical honesty. Not only with Howl, but also with her family — and herself.

Explored with clear-eyed compassion, Eddie’s isolation within her family structure proves a compelling narrative engine. The trong cast of minor characters artfully captures the bubbling and ever-shifting dynamics of teen friendships. Skilfully balancing light and shade, Jade Timms uses humour and evocative details to ensure this is as much a story of hope as it is of loss. The narrative sweeps to a powerful conclusion, delivering deep satisfaction in its final line.
